Interesting facts about the SPX (S&P500 index of the American stock exchange)

Implementing a successful, prompt investment decision has become more difficult. Without focusing on the financial instruments of the exchange that are specifically designed to track the situation on the market, it would be easy to lose your finances. The Standard and Poor's 500 index is a float-weighted index of influential companies that was developed and published in 1957.

The S&P 500 is calculated in different versions, almost solely taking into account the price index in the media. The classic S&P 500 does not include dividend payments and rights proceeds. However, there is also the so-called S&P 500 Total Return Index. Dividend payments in addition to the prices are included in its calculation.

There are strict criteria for inclusion in the S&P 500, which are regularly reviewed. The company must be a US company, and certain requirements must be met. Among others, it should have a market capitalization of at least $8.2 billion, the stock must have been publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ for at least one year, and not less than a half of the shares must be publicly accessible.

Overall, experienced traders and analysts expect high volatility since corporate earnings capture public attention and investors keep a close eye on aspects, such as interest rates and economic data.

Currently, the central bank would begin a series of rate increases in March 2022, ending a long period of the lowest interest rates.

As the prospect of interest rate growth in order to restrain inflation reaches its peak, the stock market hates the idea of rising interest rates, as it may affect the company's profit and reduce the attractiveness of shares. This level of precaution led to a downtrend on the index CFDs since a high fear index usually leads to a decrease in risky operations, while futures are the riskiest instrument of the market.

During the period when the rate was low, money was "cheap", which led to the widespread withdrawal of money and ended with greater volatility in the market.

The highest price of the index was 4,818.62 on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
